Construction to be complete on Thursday
Drivers can rejoice because the construction on Mission Street should be completed Thursday.
Jerry Stepanski, transportation services center manager for the Michigan Department of Transportation, said construction is on schedule and half done.
“We’ve had to slow down because of the rain – we can’t work on it in the rain, but we’ll be working Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night starting at 9 p.m.,” he said.
Stepanski said they’ve kept two lanes open at all times and plenty of flaggers and barrels have made it easy for motorists to know where they can drive during the construction.
“We’re doing it at night because there’s less traffic and we’re able to do the work with a minimal impact on motorists,” he said.
The project was started mid-July by the Michigan Department of Transportation to extend the life of the road. The street is getting a “crack treatment” to fill cracks in the road with asphalt and a microsurface, which is a thin overlay of the road.
The project is estimated to cost $1.4 million, which comes from the Build Michigan II Fund and the Tea-21 federal bill providing money for road construction.
