Registrar’s Office makes changes to STAR

Grades on the STAR system, pin numbers for furthered confidentiality, and a future that will lead to grades and transcripts on the Web are all changes the Registrar’s Office is implementing.
Steve Grenus, assistant registrar, said starting with the end of Summer Session II, grades will be available to students on the STAR system. Fall grades will be available this year too, but they may be accessed for a shorter time, due to sharing the system with registration.
“The idea is just one more avenue for students to have access to their grades,” he said. “We only have so many lines (for the STAR system), but when grades are on the Web you’ll even be able to look at your grades from two years ago.”
Transcripts of grades and the grades themselves will be available on the Web in the future, Grenus said. Also, even though Summer II grades are on the STAR system, the traditional mailing is still being sent at this point, he said.
Grenus said grades will be accessible starting at 8 a.m. Aug. 13 through Aug. 23. The time a student can call is not based on the number of credit hours they have. To access grades, students need to listen to the menu because it has a new option for grades, graduate or undergraduate. The pin number, a number now used instead of the social security number, is then put in by the student.
For those who need pin numbers, a prompt will come up asking them to input their birth date and make a pin number. If a student has a pin number but has forgotten or lost it, he or she must visit the Registrar’s Office with a picture identification and the number will be reset. The Registrar’s Office can’t actually see the number, Grenus said.
For questions, the registrar can be reached at 774-3261.
