BGSU is just better
I always assumed that all MAC schools were the same, I was wrong.
I believed that all MAC schools were usually located in close-to-the middle of nowhere area. I figured that everything about the campuses were all very similar, very compact with drab brick buildings no taller than four stories.
All of these assumptions of course had no basis for comparison considering I have never been to another MAC school, unless you count Western and I don’t, plus I really wasn’t paying attention and I had other things on my mind during my visit there.
I do however remember hearing once that all MAC schools receive free admission to all sporting events, which in my mind makes them all the same.
But, after my brief but glorious trip to Bowling Green State University, my theory was completely shattered and now knowing what I now know about BGSU, I’m not very happy here at CMU.
When I first pulled into the lovely town of Bowling Green, Ohio it appeared as if my theory was true, I was in the middle-of-nowhere and as we approached the town we came up on a Pisanello’s Pizza, then a Papa John’s, then a BW-3′s and then the kicker, A SBX!!! Things were looking up as far as my theory went, similar stores which I thought only existed in Mt. Pleasant, the whole middle-of-nowhere thing and everyone was getting in free to sporting events.
Then I entered the campus, which from here on out destroyed any theory I may have ever came up with as far as similarities go. The campus was actually pleasing to look at, the architecture was very aesthically pleasing and few of the buildings consisted of at least five to six stories. And although the snow covered the campus I could tell that come spring the campus would be in full bloom and simply breath-taking.
Finding a parking space was not a problem and although it was about 6:30 at night it appeared that there was ample parking for all. I then got the opportunity to enter their main auditorium, Kobacker Hall which featured a huge vestibule and several conference rooms towards the back of the stage which were used for the reception and press conference afterward.
The people there were more than accommodating and took time out of the overall chaos to introduce themselves to us and see if we needed anything.
We were then seated in the auditorium and awaited the arrival of “The Real World” cast members. The event was sold out and general admission seating, which offered potential danger when opening the doors to let all 990 “Real World” fans in the building. Instead, small numbers were let into the auditorium intermittently.
If this were event would have taken place at CMU (which it wouldn’t have, because we’re too busy trying to get Dave Matthews here) everyone would have been let in at once and chaos would have ensued. Just imagine a NET theater event but triple the people that’s what would have happened.
After talking to various crowd members, they all vouched for the quality events that came to BGSU on a regular basis and overall pleased with on ticket distribution and the events themselves. Now granted the events were things such as The Dance Marathon and several country groups that I had never heard of, there was something going on.
Call me bitter, but I’ve dealt with a ton of nothing here at CMU for the past five years and the second anything does happen (Adam Sandler), it gets botched.
If I was not graduating in May, I would be on my way to BGSU today.
