Governor’s service award nominations deadline set
Gov. John Engler and the Michigan Community Service Commission have come together to recognize volunteers for the Seventh Annual Governor’s Service Awards.
“We are looking for individuals and organizations that have made an impact in society, who have put their time and energy into volunteering,” said Lindy Lange, director of outreach for the Michigan Community Service Commission.
Lange said the commission is expecting between 300 and 400 nominations, but there are only 15 award categories.
According to a press release, individuals may nominate themselves or others in award categories which include: youth, adult, senior, national service program, national service program member, youth service club/civic organization, adult service club/civic organization, corporation/business, service-learning educator, community service program manager, media/news organization, the arts in service, innovative spirit and for the Gov. George Romney Lifetime Achievement Volunteer Service Award.
Five finalists in each of the categories will be selected through a review process. The finalists will then attend a reception and dinner with the governor and first lady.
To obtain a nomination form, call the Michigan Community Service Commission at (517) 373-4200 or download the form at www.state.mi.us/career/mcsc.
Nominations are due Feb. 11.
