MTV is one big bully
I love all things MTV.
I love all their shows from “The Real World to the “Lyricist Lounge” (yes I said the “Lyricist Lounge”). MTV is the first channel I flip to when I turn on my TV and nine times out of ten that’s where I leave it.
But after a mini-debacle prior to the MTV Campus Invasion visit I think those odds may drop to at least 5 to 1 for a week or two. I’ve always thought of MTV as a people friendly kind of station. You know some one you would love to hang out with, someone who was really goddamned funny and had just had impeccable comedic timing.
I was wrong, instead MTV decided to flex its tiny cable channel muscles and alienate a group of buds who looked up to them like a father figure. When I arrived at 6:30 last evening to pick up my press passes I was needless to say a little excited. After all who doesn’t love a free show?
After waiting and waiting all while cursing the Program Board for the organization skills, I was given the news that all MTV (MTV mind you not Program Board) was only issuing one photo pass to the gang here at CM LIFE. That caused a slight problem since considering that we had no reporters at the show to cover the event.
As I delved further into the mishap I came to find out that the folks and MTV were forced to make a decision regarding all press cred and they decided that they weren’t going to let the us in.
What have we ever done to MTV, besides watch TRL daily, get sucked into every “Real World”/”Road Rules Marathon and act like complete tools during Spring Break giving them months worth of footage? I’m sure MTV might comeback with something like, we’re turning viewers into VJs for pete’s sake isn’t that enough?
No, it’s not? I want to be able to cover their Campus Invasion Tour without a hassle. They owe us at least that. I think it’s safe to say the Et cetera section alone makes at least one MTV reference in every issue.
So I’m left asking why? Why would one of my favorite cable networks just flat out screw me? I’m so distraught. I thought MTV would treat me better than that.
Instead I keep imaging over and over a Teddy KGB from “Rounders” like figure shouting out to me, “Are you through? Even though I stick it in you? You know that, the money I pay you is yours?”
I’m at a complete loss because there is nothing I can to do pay them back. Sure I can not watch the station anymore, but what will that accomplish? It’s going to effect me more than it will MTV plus “Jailbait” premieres on Sunday.
So MTV is just a bunch of big bullies who like to come to small universities and push us around like a bunch of big fat dummy-heads they are. But they can and there is nothing we can do about it. We need culture and they provide on a 24 hour basis.
So what would I do if I were in MTVs position? I probably would do the same thing just because I could. After all what are a bunch of punk-ass college kids from some po-dunk town that doesn’t even have an A&W? Nothing.
That’s why MTV is so cool.
