“Battle of the Bands” happens Saturday

Once again, five high school bands from the State of Michigan will perform
during Central Michigan University’s third annual “Battle of the Bands”
competition.
Five marching bands from Flint, River Rouge and Grand Rapids will compete for
a $500 cash prize on September 23 following the home football game against Boise
State. The game will finish around 4 p.m. at KElly/Shorts stadium. The schools
are Hamady, River Rouge, Northern, Ottawa Hills and Beecher High Schools. Admission
to the event is free of charge.
“September 23 was the date chosen for this year’s event because hundreds
of high school students and their families will be on campus for CMU and You
Day. It’s a way to expose them to CMU’s diversity as a campus and
to provide them with a more complete college experience,” said Traci Guinn,
associate director of admissions.
Invitations for the competition were sent to approximately 50 Michigan high
schools. CMU faculty and staff will participate in the competition as judges.
This year’s judges include Mark Montgomery, Marcie Otteman, James Bachelor,
Bridget Dunigan and Anne Monroe.
