Our founding fathers specifically omitted any reference or desire for political parties in the Constitution. The party system developed based on ideologies. After various attempts at different parties, we have reached a point in our history where Democrats and Republicans maintain majority rule.
This may change in the future, but the United State should never operate with more than two major parties. Common sense and simple math drives home the point. If you have three, four, or five parties, who is elected by the majority?
A person can easily be elected to office without the majority desiring it. This will render the person helpless to accomplish anything. You think it’s difficult now to get a bipartisan bill passed, try to convince three or four parties.
I agree with Matt, no vote is a wasted vote. But we can’t vote individualistic desires. We vote for our nation’s best interest. There are more than 450 million people in this country and 450 million different opinions on how things should be run. The way to select a candidate is to research and determine the underlying main platform supporting issues and vote closest to your beliefs and convictions of what you feel is best for the nation.
Democrats, or liberals feel the government should be more involved in our lives. They are in favor of inflation of the government through social programs and bureaucracy financed with higher taxes.
Republicans or conservatives, on the other hand, legislate to encourage individualism and accountability. They favor freedom of business or capitalism, and personal achievement over the socialistic tendencies of Democrats whose policies punish wealth and success.
It has been proven throughout history that socialism and communism do not work mainly because it stifles incentive and motivation. In other words, there’s no reason to work if the government is going to take it. Our form of capitalism is the longest lasting and most economically-successful government in the history of the world.
Capitalism is what every citizen of the enslaved socialistic regime dreams of. Matt talks freedom, but what system besides a capitalist system provides true freedom for all? It appears to me Matt wants freedom for everyone only if it’s his type of freedom.
Corporations and small business drive the economy. They provide jobs, products and incentive for research and development to make our lives healthier and safer. And corporations are the largest donors of money to the needy in the world.
Bill Gates recently wrote a single check of more than $100,000,000.00 to an organization that inoculates the children of Africa against disease. And this amounts to only a fraction of what he and other corporations do with their profits. I’ll take business over government any day.
Tax dollars are too often squandered and lost within bureaucratic inefficiency and red tape. The less government is involved the better. The United States Post Office delivers a letter for 33 cents and said it is losing money. Federal Express said, if given the chance to run the post office, it could deliver the same letter for 13 cents and make money. Who do you think is more efficient and qualified?
In conclusion, Matt mentioned Time-Warner and CNN are favoring Bush. His facts are wrong. Time-Warner and CNN are run by very liberal individuals who tend to favor Democrats. Recent research has shown a liberal media operating within a conservative country. Ted Turner is a staunch Democrat and maintains control over the majority of cable media in the United States. Matt needs to stop shooting from the hip and start shooting with facts.
All the rhetoric that Republicans are for the rich, bigoted, powerful and something to fear is just that. Republicans are just Americans who believe you should work hard, take care of our planet and those who live here, and be held accountable for your actions. If you work hard and achieve, you and your family should benefit. Nobody should have their hands in our pockets, and every American should be free to acquire property and wealth if they want. Everyone has the opportunity under a capitalist system.
Want less government intervention and more control over your life? Vote George W. Bush in November.
