The future of CMU depends on 12 essential values
Attendees at Friday’s core values meeting attempted to pull everything that is CMU into 12 values.
We believe such a task shouldn’t be taken lightly.
“We wanted to provide a foundation for the picture of the future at CMU,” University President Michael Rao said at the meeting.
The turnout was above average for most university community meetings — a sign of the event’s importance — and we believe enough evidence exists that heightened awareness of all interests at CMU must be exercised during this extraordinary time.
The Steering Committee for University Planning will develop a list of institutional values it deems essential for the future of CMU. The values which will guide this group go to the very heart of our institution’s unique foundation.
While it is probably pointless for us to again ask where the student participation on this committee is, we don’t think it is too much too ask that the opinions of students be sought out and considered during this process.
As long as there is a CMU, there will be students. There can be no future planning for the direction of CMU that ignores the role of students on this campus.
