Top 10 beers at CMU …

The end of the year is fast approaching, and for many students, this is extreme
crunch time. Between term papers, final exams, and out of class essays, it might
be wise to take a breather during the final stretch to the end. To help those
of the legal drinking age along with that, I have assembled a list of the top
ten beers in existence today.
10. Milwaukee’s Best (aka Beast): This beer is one of the more foul
tasting beers on the market. As if that weren’t enough, Milwaukee’s
Best has the tendency to give you next day gastrointenstinal difficulties. The
taste does beat out Coors, so there is hope for the Beast yet. That, coupled with
the fact that it’s relatively inexpensive landed it in the number ten spot.

9. Labatt’s Blue: Somewhat smoother than Beast, this beer has a taste
that is totally unique. However, the fact that this taste isn’t all that
good doesn’t help Blue out at all. In addition, Labatt’s is relatively
more expensive than other beers because of its status as an import. However, its
salvation lies right across the Detroit River as a domestic, and therefore cheaper
than American beer.

8. Mickey’s: One of the finer tastes in malt liquor, Mickey’s
combines the relative cheapness of a 40 ounce bottle, and the heavy, yet surprisingly
smooth taste of a truly unique mix. However, the main downfall of Mickey’s
is the same 40 ounce bottle that makes it such a good deal. The beer tends to
get warm at the bottom, making it a rather undesirable party drink.

7. Molson Ice: Another fine product of Canada, Molson Ice has a relatively
good taste to it. However, it falls short of most of its American counterparts,
being more expensive and less smooth than others. However, it is only a short
distance to the place where Molson is domestic and therefore a good choice.

6. St. Ides Special Brew: St. Ides has a line of beer that is one of the
better brands I have tried. In addition to their beer, they have a line of friut
flavored drinks that have the smoothness and texture of beer, but are flavored
to not taste like beer. St. Ides is also a good value in their 22 ounce and 40
ounce bottles. However, the drink is rather heavy and suffers from over flavoring.

5. Camo: I recently discovered this high gravity lager through my roommate
who claimed that it was a very smooth beer. Indeed, it proved to be a very smooth
beer, and is eight percent alcohol by volume to boot. In addition, the beer is
a fairly good deal, being only about $1.10 a 24 ounce can. However, the downfall
of the beer is its tendency to get warm at the bottom of the can, making it another
undesirable party drink.

4. Miller High Life: The claim on the side of the box is that Miller High
Life is “The Champagne of Beers.” True to its word, High Life is very
smooth, and full of a rich taste that makes it unique and great. In addition,
it is rather inexpensive, making it great for parties or just a drink to relax
with during a game.

3. Fosters: The true Aussie blue has made the list of great beers for the
simple reason that it is great. The first time I sampled this wonder of alcohol
was at an Outback Steakhouse. The beer is surprisingly smooth, and easy to drink.
Plus, it is light so it makes a good complement to food. In addition to all of
this, Fosters comes in bottles as well as a huge can. The only downfall to Fosters
is that it is an improt, and therefore more expensive than most other beers.

2. Bud Ice: This beer is one of the best of the bunch. Featuring an overall
smoothness and almost no aftertaste, Bud Ice is nearly the perfect beer. The only
problem is that it is relatively expensive, but even that can be set aside for
its overall greatness as a beer.
Nine beer mugs out of ten.
1. Red Dog: This beer is one of the greatest on the face of the planet.
It combines a smooth taste with a low price that makes it the dream of almost
every college student. It is full bodied, light, and guaranteed to please your
taste buds for its shelf price.

Hopefully, this list of the finer beer pleasures in life will help you in your
quest for relaxation during the time of year when time is at a premium. No matter
how you choose to spend your time, please enjoy your break responsibly.
