Rock’n Reggae Bash to provide music, good times this weekend
A massive force known as Rock n’ Reggae Bash is coming to Salt River Acres
Saturday.
This phenomenon has gained in its 12 years much fame, and a plethora of loyal
fans in addition to students who just want to see what it’s all about.
Gates open at 10 a.m. and the music starts at noon. The gates close at 10 p.m.
Salt River Acres is located about one and a half miles off of M-20 on Greendale
Road, which is between Mount Pleasant and Midland.
This year’s bash is no exception to the legacy set forth by this event. Not
only does the bash feature a dynamite lineup of bands, but there will be plenty
of other fun at the festival.
The seven-band lineup includes Duke Tumatoe & The Power Trio, 19 Wheels, Sprout
& The Orange, Indika, Tribute to Bob Marley, Motherbird and Immunity.
Coming from as far away as Detroit and as close as right here in Mount Pleasant,
this lineup will bring a full day of musical entertainment.
The stage is set up in a large field where people can get right up under the singers’
noses if they want, or chill in the background and play frisbee or hackey sack.
This is also the space where the early arrivals will have a chance to snag some
free T-shirts from the infamous “Cannon,” a giant pneumatic weapon that
blasts the shirts into the air.
If the stage area becomes too tiresome, dozens of vendors set up shop to peddle
their wares. Everything from food and beverages to T-shirts, tobacco pipes, and
blankets are available for purchase.
The parking lot is also a source of camaraderie, as many people choose to bring
kegs, large coolers of beer, and even tarps to pitch as makeshift sun shelters.
Some might complain that they don’t have a car, or that they don’t want
to drive there for fear of not being in the condition to drive home. However,
the Isabella County Transportation Commission is transporting people back and
forth.
Starting at 11 a.m. at Bovee University Center, and running all day, ICTC will
ship attendees out to Salt River Acres for $1. As if all of that is not enough,
ICTC will bring you back to CMU free of charge. Plus, you can bring whatever you
need to have fun on the bus with the exception of kegs.
In the interest of maximizing the fun level for all in attendance Salt River Acres
will not allow the following items through their gates — dogs, fires,
glass, furniture that doesn’t fold, or tanks, either military or gas-containing.
All those who are attending the Rock n’ Reggae Bash this year are guaranteed
a great time. Those who missed this one will have another shot in the fall.
