Locke Letter
A new school year is here, and with it comes all the usual problems, chief among
which is the parking situation. As noted in a recent CM LIFE editorial, parking
at CMU has always been a problem and isn’t likely to be alleviated soon. While
I fully realize that it is a bad situation that we all must deal with, I wish
to point out to new students and returning students who should know better that
the parking spaces around Washington Apartments (along the Ottawa/Calumet/Ojibway
Court circle) are for the apartment residents’ use only. We pay the fees
for the ability to park outside our homes, only to have that ability stolen from
us by students who are unwilling to walk or ride the shuttle bus from farther
away on campus.
On countless occasions in the past when we’ve had to leave campus, we’ve returned
home to find no place to park. Unlike everyone else who attends school here, we
are not allowed to park virtually anywhere; we have to park there and only there.
Please keep that in mind when you are looking for a place to park; we have it
worse than you. We don’t park in your driveway, so please don’t park in ours.
