Hangover pill prevents side effects of overindulgence

Students have an alternative to Aspirin the morning after an evening of drinking.

Perfect Equation Inc. created an all-natural herbal hangover prevention pill,
and revealed today how the pill works and how it was created.

Extract from the prickly pear cactus is said to be the active ingredient in preventing
hangovers.

“It is clinically proven to rapidly accelerate heat-shock proteins in response
to shock,” said Gerald Stefanko, head of marketing at Perfect Equation Inc.

Releasing these heat-shock proteins ahead of time allows the body to prepare for
negative side effects, like nausea and headaches, from a night of drinking.

“It is an early alert system for your body,” Stefanko said.

Creators added B vitamins to the formula because drinking alcohol depletes them
from the body, Stefanko said.

Perfect Equation originally created the pill not for hangover prevention, but
for a new herbal formula to help scuba divers and athletes with fatigue. It was
given to scuba divers, cyclists and runners.

It was discovered during testing that test subjects weren’t getting hangovers
on the nights of over-indulging, he said.

The pill shows no side effects, must be taken before drinking begins and remains
effective for up to 72 hours.

The only limitation is people must take the pill on an empty stomach so it can
properly absorb into the body, Stefanko said.

CMU students have mixed reactions to the pill; some said they would like to try
the pill, but question the wisdom of using it regularly.

“(The pill) is a bad idea because it will encourage people to drink on school
nights,” said Jay Twining, Troy junior.

Niles senior Stephanie Brady said there can be negative reasons behind using the
pill.

“It is a bad idea because I don’t feel that it is necessary to drink
to get drunk,” she said.

The hangover-prevention pill is available to the public for $19.95 for 10 capsules.
