Students ask, experts answer

Political science and sociology professors will respond to student
inquiries at
World Trade Center forums beginning next week.

Sociology, anthropology and social work Professor Brigitte
Bechtold, associate
economic Professor Jim Irwin and political science Adjunct
Professor Craig Greathouse
will lead “Why Strike at an Economic Center? Likely Motives,
Likely Impact,”
from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Anspach Hall 155.

“We do believe this resourceful, educational community has
the ability and
responsibility to encourage CMU students to reflect thoughtfully
and carefully
on these events and their implications,” said Merlyn Mowrey,
forum organizer
and religion and philosophy associate professor.

The final seminar takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in
Anspach Hall 152.

Joyce Baugh will lead “Tightening Up on Security: The
Impact of Civil Liberties,”
with philosophy and religion associate Professors Joyce Henricks
and Robert Noggle.

Baugh is a political science professor and chair of the
department.

“This is the opportunity where students can share their point
of views and
hear what others think,” Noggle said. “They can also
hear the opinions
of the faculty, who have carefully studied the events.”

Each forum will include counselors, and will begin with a
30-minute presentation
followed by a discussion.
