Christa McAuliffe Middle School students achieved “new heights” while learning the importance of leadership Friday at CMU.

Buses brought the Bay City sixth graders to the day-long leadership seminar, where they worked with Central’s Leader Advancement Scholarship students in Finch Fieldhouse, participating in small and large group activities as well as wall climbing.

The 4-year-old event was organized this year by Allen Park sophomore Sara Meray.

“I actually learn along with them and it’s wonderful to see them all light up,” she said. “Our jobs are to challenge them and make them think like a leader to bring out their leadership skills.”

The day’s activities included a campus tour of Charles V. Park Library, the Student Activity Center and the Bovee University Center.

When students arrived, they were broken into four groups led by LAS members.

Lindsay Robbins, CMMS sixth grader, said she enjoyed the SAC, UC and the Park library during the tour.

“I thought they were pretty cool,” Robbins said.

Overall, she said her first time at Central was “a great one.”
