Matthews, Reynolds get high marks

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds’ concert Tuesday night pleased most of
the thousands crammed into Rose Arena.

Even veteran Matthews’ fans such as East Lansing resident Dan Ziska said
the personal atmosphere of a small venue such as Rose Arena was worth the
almost-$50 ticket.

“This is probably the 13th time I have seen Dave Matthews. This is amazing.
I usually go to the larger venues, but the crowd makes all the difference.
I think (the crowd) is doing an excellent job,” he said. “If the crowd is
acting stupid, then it takes away some of the fun. This is probably one of
the best shows I have been to.”

The acoustic concert took place at 7:30 p.m. with more than 5,000 in
attendance.

“This is my first Dave show,” said Mount Pleasant senior Emily Moss.
“Dave and Tim were excellent and the acoustics were awesome. This was great
and I would definitely go to another show.”

Keith Gerard, 24, said he felt the monologue really carried the show,
and the audience needed to speak up.

“The acoustic was all right. It’s cool to hear him talk. His joking made
the whole night. The show was pretty solid,”  the Chesterfield resident
said. “The crowd could have been a little louder, though.”

A Kalamazoo man said he felt the acoustic nature of the performance detracted
from the show’s energy.

“The acoustics were pretty cool, but I’d rather see the whole band live,”
said Brandon Baker, 24. “I like the jamming of the band. It gets the crowd
into it a little more.”

While many enjoyed the show some felt a louder crowd and a Dave Matthews
Band would have improved the night.

“I think this event is cool. The crowd was great but I feel workers were
a little stingy,” said Brooke Sears, Romeo resident. “I realize they were
doing there job, but we got kicked out for refusing to not bring our camera
in. If we pay $75 for a ticket, then we should be able to take pictures.”
