Geography Professor Mark Francek has just expanded access to his “Resources for Earth Science and Geography Instruction” Web site to thousands of students, educators and geographers across the world.

The Web site recently replaced a previous educational and scientific site with improved user interface and a new search capability.

The Web site, http://webs.cmich.edu/resgi/, hosts more than 800 links to Web sites relating to earth science, geography, mapping, environmental science, science education, career opportunities and more.

“The Web page I’ve created provides a quality filter for students,” Francek said. “I have evaluated and reviewed each link so that the links are active and further people’s education.”

The site targets students of all ages and college instructors who need to access the best on-line resources taught in an introductory geography class, he said.

Director of the Geographic alliance and Geography professor Michael J. Libbee said he approves of Francek’s improvements to the educational Web site.

“Mark’s site has always been a favorite with teacher consultants in the Michigan Geographic Alliance and across the country,” Libbee said.

The new and improved organization of the Web site will make it much easier for teachers to access accurate information appropriate for kindergarten through high school teaching, he said.

Corey Rosser, a Marlette senior majoring in Social Studies, hopes to use the site throughout the year to help him achieve his degree.

“This Web page has everything from pictures and lesson plans to newspaper articles and professional journals regarding a geographical issue,” he said. “I know where to turn first.”

The original site was reviewed in the Dec. 7, 2001 issue of Science magazine.
