Residents of north campus are reminded to use labs
North campus computer labs are officially open for students who are
tired of trekking to other labs.
Residents of Trout, Calkins, Robinson, Larzelere and Barnes halls
are reminded to use the computer labs located on either the terrace or
first floors of the halls.
The joint Trout/Calkins computer lab is located in the Trout terrace
and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“Having the lab is a positive addition because it is a convenience
for residents who live here,” Midland sophomore Laura Froelicher said.
“It is one more benefit that enhances the community in our building.”
Along with free black and white printing, the Trout/Calkins lab
includes 10 personal computers and one Macintosh, full Internet
availability and Microsoft Office programs.
Robinson and Larzelere residents may use their own labs anytime as
well. Barnes Hall residents are allowed to use any lab — their own is
open from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through
Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Thursday.
“The center is closed Fridays and Saturdays due to lack of lab users
Barnes Hall has experienced in the past,” said Pinconning junior Aaron
Jones, Barnes computer center manager.
CMU students who wish to use Barnes computer center are limited to
500 free copies per semester. The lab is open to anybody, including
Washington and Northwest Apartments residents.
North campus residents had to attend an informational meeting in
order to use their designated computer lab. At this meeting, user
agreements were passed out and signed and a computer club card was
issued to those residents who were present.
All funding for the Trout/Calkins, Robinson, Larzelere and Barnes
labs have been added into the residence hall students’ room and board
charges.
