Many area hotels booked for weekend

Alumni and out-of-towners may find themselves in a dilemma if hotel
reservations for the upcoming weekend weren’t made in advance.

Most hotels throughout Mount Pleasant and the surrounding area have
had rooms completely booked for a few months because of the football
game against Western Michigan University at 1 p.m. Saturday at
Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

“We are entirely full,” said Rebecca Volmering, front desk
supervisor at the Fairfield Inn, 2525 S. Mission St. “We’ve been so for
quite a while.”

Best Western Inn, 5770 E. Pickard Road, is also booked for the
weekend, said front desk operator and Detroit sophomore Kiki Dasher.

“There are a few hotels still in Mount Pleasant that have
availability; those looking shouldn’t have to go too far outside the
town,” Dasher said.

A few of the hotels around the area with rooms available are the
Baymont Inn, 5858 E. Pickard Road; the Budget Inn, 1523 S. Mission St.;
and the Super 8 Motel, 2323 S. Mission St.

In addition, room prices have gone up compared to the surrounding
weekends. Some rates have only risen about $20, but others such as the
Baymont Inn have risen almost $45 for a single room with one king-sized
bed.

Many hotel employees have suggested getting room reservations far in
advance for weekends as busy as this one will be.

“Some people call a year in advance just to make sure they have a
room because it’s a crazy weekend,” Dasher said.

If reservations haven’t been made as of yet, it is possible — it
just may take some looking into, said Laura Freel of Super 8.

“As of right now, you probably can find one in the area if you
hurry,” she said. “If not, we recommend going to Alma or Clare.”
