MIDLAND — A two-car collision on the corner of 6 Mile Road and M-20 in
Midland County resulted in extensive traffic detours early Thursday
evening and into the night.

John Hanson, chief of the Homer Township Fire Department, said the
accident occurred at 5:30 p.m. when a car hit a truck, which hit a
utility pole on the southeast corner of the intersection.

Hanson said there were no major injuries and nobody was taken to the
hospital.

He said the broken pole lost electricity and there was an effort to
get the power lines up and running as soon as possible. Consumers
Energy was on the scene repairing the lines at 10 p.m.

Traffic on M-20 was detoured from 5 to 7 Mile roads.

Richelle Willman, attendant at the Country Corner convenience store,
11 E. Isabella Road, was working across the road when the accident
occurred.

Willman said a car collided into a truck, which forced the truck to
hit the utility pole. She said the truck kept the pole from collapsing
onto the highway.

“(Officers at the scene) talked about shutting down the power in the
area,” she said.

While that decision was eventually deemed unnecessary, Willman said
authorities were concerned about injuries since there was an infant in
the car.

“There was probably five cop cars and maybe eight, if not more, fire
vehicles,” she said.

There also was numerous police officers from Midland County and fire
fighters from Homer, Lee and Midland Townships blocking off the area of
the accident.
