Central Star debuted for the semester with seven competitors hoping
their voice would sound the best to the audience.

CMU’s version of the hit Fox television show “American Idol,”
sponsored by On The Fly Productions, took place Thursday night at Carey
Residential Restaurant.

Amy Burdo, Lakeview freshman, won the competition by singing Sarah
McLachlan’s “Angel.”

Jenny Moon, Midland freshman, took second after singing Trisha
Yearwood’s “How do I Live.” Moon also sang the song “Insensitive.”

Each person performed two songs and two were chosen to advance to
the next round by the audience. The performers also had to deal with
some feedback from three judges.

“It was a pretty good time,” said Dearborn Heights sophomore Sarah
McCarthy. “I was actually surprised how good everyone was.”

Sarah Cay, On the Fly Productions’ public relations director, said
the event went pretty much the way she expected.

“We had a pretty good turnout,” the Hope senior said. “It’s great to
see people come out and cheer on the contestants.”

The next Central Star is April 1. From there, the finalists will
compete against each other April 15.
