The Dinner Bell opened its doors Wednesday in a new location and with a
new name.
The popular establishment, now named Rooster’s Restaurant, moved
from Old 27 to a building recently vacated by Ponderosa Steakhouse,
1329 S. Mission St.
Co-owners Lorice Nemeth and Diana Gluch said the move had more to do
with getting a bigger place than trying to be closer to campus.
“We didn’t move here just for the college kids, but we do look
forward to getting more college business,” Gluch said. “They are good
customers.”
Gluch said they have been looking for a bigger place for a long
time. So, when Ponderosa left, they quickly decided to move their
restaurant.
They decided to change the name to Rooster’s Restaurant because they
felt The Dinner Bell was more of a “mom and pop” name.
In their new area, they will compete with restaurants like Lil’
Chef, 1720 S. Mission St., and Big Boy, 1623 S. Mission St., and they
thought this name would suit them better.
Gluch said many other changes have taken place as well. The
restaurant hired about 60 new employees, added some dinner entries and
changed its hours.
Rooster’s will be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
“We aren’t going to stay open 24 hours, at least not until the
students come back in August,” Gluch said.
Vassar senior Jason Pintar said he’s more likely to visit the
restaurant now.
“I’m glad they moved closer to campus because the chances of me
going there and eating are much better now,” Pintar said.
However, even with all the changes the bell still is hanging outside
the front doors.
