PRSSA connects students at spring conference
Members of the Public Relations Student Society of America hosted the
third annual PRSSA Spring Conference on Saturday.
St. Clair Shores junior Andrea Pecoraro, PRSSA president, said the
conference was important to help Integrative Public Relations majors
network.
“The reason we decided to do this again was because it is very
important for IPR majors to continue learning and networking,” she said.
The conference had 10 different speakers with topics ranging from
sports crisis communication to how to avoid the pitfalls of a career in
public relations.
Some of the speakers included Allan Schoenberg, an associate
director at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange; Holly LaRose-Roenicke,
global business communications manager for specialty chemicals at Dow
Chemical Company; and David Wieme, Palace Sports and Entertainment
veteran.
There also were five different universities included in the
conference, including CMU, Michigan State University, Eastern Michigan
University, Ferris State University and University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Pecoraro said all together there were about 70 students at the
conference, which was double from last year’s attendance.
Ishpeming sophomore Joe Blewett, a representative from Ferris State,
attended the event because of people’s past experiences.
“I figured it would be a good experience and we heard it was good in
the past,” Blewett said.
