University to e-mail students crime statistics

Crime awareness on campus and crime prevention go hand-in-hand.

This is a belief that CMU Police Chief Stan Dinius lives by and
because of it, his department will be sending out a campus-wide e-mail
about crime statistics around campus.

The CMU Police Department has displayed the campus crime statistics
on their Web site for the past few years. The campus-wide e-mails began
a few years ago as well and help to keep students and faculty aware of
the number of crimes that take place on CMU’s campus.

“I think e-mailing the crime stats to everyone makes it possible to
deliver the information quickly and economically,” said Community
Policing Officer Janice Klein. “This way, you are sure everyone has
received the information and the opportunity to review the statistics.”

Students should expect and e-mail from CMU Police in late September.

“The statistics are at the press right now and we are just waiting
to get them back so we can e-mail them out,” Dinius said. “It could be
out next week or the week after that.”
