Housing fair benefits students, leasing agents

Representatives from 20 apartment complexes dotted the Bovee University
Center Rotunda Wednesday in an effort to answer questions at the second
annual Housing Fair.

On top of all of the information available to students, there also
were prize drawings and giveaways throughout the day.

Macomb sophomore Don Gillette used the housing fair to help kick
start his search and called the event “very beneficial.”

“The housing fair was a great experience,”Gillette said. “It helped
me to decide where I will live next year and it gave students a chance
to get a good overview of what different apartments have to offer.”

Approximately 500 to 600 students attended the event, hosted by
Central Michigan Life, with the opportunity to gather as much
information as possible to assist them in finding a place to live off
campus.

“This event is great because it allows students to get information
about apartments and find a good fit for them,” said Kathy Simon,
assistant director of Student Media and the event’s organizer. “It
helps them to line up apartments for next year.”

Nick Pelletier, Gillette’s roommate and fellow Macomb sophomore,
said the housing fair gave students a good start in looking for a place
to live and it was worthwhile for him.

While Gillette and Pelletier were both looking for apartments to
move into next fall, other students were looking for apartment leases
that start in January.

Freeland sophomore John Babinski said he commutes 45 minutes
every day to campus. He said this event was informative in his search
for a spring lease.

“I found that there are a number of places that have apartments
available for the spring, which is really encouraging,” Babinski said.
“All of the representatives were very helpful and all of them answered
my questions fairly. I was impressed.”
