David Heeke was announced as Central Michigan University’s new athletics director at a press conference this afternoon in Rose Arena.
Heeke spent the last 18 years at the University of Oregon and has served as Senior Associate Athletics Director and Chief of Staff since 2002. He also served as Director of Regional Fundraising and Associate Athletics Director of External Operations.
CMU appointed a 13-member search committee in September and narrowed its search to four candidates.
Perk Weisenburger of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Frank Pergolizzi of Southeastern Louisiana State and Bruce Van De Velde formerly of Iowa State were named finalists along with Heeke.
Weisenburger and Van De Velde withdrew their candidacy last Friday after coming to campus for interviews and open forums last month.
Current Athletics Director Herb Deromedi is retiring Jan. 15 after serving 11 years.
