her career.

The health sciences professor was recently commended for her hard
work in receiving the 2005 National Eta Sigma Gamma Distinguished
Service Award.

The honor is given only to those who provide exceptional service to
an organization.

In her case, the organization is Eta Sigma Gamma, a national
professional health education honorary society.

“I wanted to help people and influence the decision making for (the)
prevention of illness,” said Brookins-Fisher, who has been working with
the honorary society her entire professional career. “They are very
passionate about making sure we have adequately prepared future health
educators.”

Brookins-Fisher first got involved with it when she was a CMU
undergraduate.

“I have done lots with them and made contributions to the field,”
she said.

The author and editor of a textbook, Brookins-Fisher has worked on
different publications, and served on local and state organization
boards.

Irene O’Boyle, assistant health science professor, said
Brookins-Fisher deserves the award.

“I can’t think of anyone more deserving for this award,” she
said. “Dr. Fisher has worked a long time with Eta Sigma Gamma and I
think it’s outstanding that she has received this award.
