Students and Mount Pleasant residents can head to Riverwood Resort to bowl, booze it up and benefit others.
Riverwood, 1313 East Broomfield Road, will host a benefit for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Isabella County Sunday.
There is a $10 donation fee for the event, which will run from 7 to 9 p.m., and cover two games of bowling and shoes.
“BBBS hosts a Bowl For Kids Sake fund-raiser every year. In the past, it’s been successful, but has never drawn in a large crowd of students,” said Lindsay Mitchell, PR Central vice president and Wyandotte senior. “This year they asked PR Central to plan an additional fund-raiser to pull in students.”
Angela Stanton, BBBS executive director, said she’s wanted to do an event like this for some time.
“We’ve been wanting to work with PR Central for a while,” she said. “We had the event in the past, but it was during exam time and that’s not very convenient for students.”
Riverwood will be filled with Hawaiian decorations and will offer Hula Hoop and limbo contests, raffles and more.
Prizes include gift certificates to local businesses such as the CMU Bookstore, Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar, Papa John’s Pizza, Little Caesar’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Bennigan’s, Big Boy Restaurants and Lil’ Chef.
The Hawaiian theme won’t be limited to just decorations and contests.
“Riverwood has offered Hawaiian-themed drink specials as well as pitcher specials, and there will be Hawaiian music playing throughout the event,” Mitchell said. “The drink specials are not in any way related to PR Central but are sponsored by Riverwood as well as BBBS.”
According to www.bbsa.org, the organization’s mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with measurable impact.
“This event will largely benefit BBBS and their projects,” Stanton said. “It will help them fund their programs and reach more children in Isabella County.”
