Dance team and rock band team up for show
A local modern dance company and an independent rock band are teaming
up to show people music and dancing are meant to go together.
Think/Dance Collective and Anathallo will be hosting their first
concert with individual sets at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Broadway Theatre,
216 E. Broadway St.
Liz Joynt-Sandberg, Think/Dance Collective founder and artistic
director, said the show is very popular.
Both the groups have their own following, she said, and the
combination appeals to a range of people.
Participants in the event agreed.
“One thing that sets Think/Dance Collective apart from other dance
ensembles is that most of the members had little or no dance training
prior to joining Think/Dance Collective,” said Kyla Cornelius, an
Alpena alumna. “This adds an interesting element to the group, which I
think makes it possible for the audience to relate to the dancers more.”
Cornelius is one of five principal dancers in the group.
“Many of the dances are developed around how each individual’s body
moves,” she said.
Members of Think/Dance Collective will be offering a free modern
dance workshop from 11-12:40 p.m. Saturday at Vision Studio of
Performing Arts, 1809 S. Mission St.
The workshop is open to the public.
“(It’s a) good experience for first-time dancers and people that are
experienced,” said Joynt-Sandberg.
