Environmental RSO nets more than $3,000
The Student Budget Advisory Committee allocated $3,500.80 to the Student Environmental Alliance Wednesday in the Bovee University Center to help pay for its “Earth Day” event.
The money will be used to cover the cost of the April 22 event’s expenses as well as advertisements and printing.
SBAC also approved the Asian Cultural Organization’s request for $2,138 to help pay for this month’s “Asian Awareness Month” events.
Lily Seto, representative of the Asian Cultural Organization, made a proposal for each of the six events planned.
“Some of the costs were already provided, but we need more help with funding to gather supplies together,” the Highland junior said.
Romulus sophomore Rebecca Thornton spoke on behalf of Sigma Lambda Gamma, which received $1,348 from SBAC for the academic, cultural and social sorority’s April 22 “Stroll Competition” event.
“It’s to help compensate what our society couldn’t pick up,” Thornton said. “We feel there will be a good turnout at the competition to support us.”
Phi Kappa Tau also received $1,481 for its “Press Your Luck For Charity” event in Warriner Hall’s Plachta Auditorium.
The costs will cover the social fraternity’s public relations and venue costs.
SBAC also allocated $1,616 to Prais-N-Motion to pay for its April 22 “Michigan Gospel Dance Explosion” event.
Other allocations made include $60 to the Latina Cultural Organization and $400 to the Public Relations Student Society of America.
Any further decisions will be made March 15 at SBAC’s next meeting in the Bovee University Center.
