A CMU professor will help health educators become better leaders Friday
by sharing her own experiences.

Irene O’Boyle, assistant health sciences professor, will offer
information about leadership in health education.

Faculty, staff, students and community members are welcome to attend
the event, which will take place at noon in room 1255 of the Health
Professions Building.

O’Boyle’s speech is part of the “Bringing Life to Scholarship”
symposium, sponsored by the College of Health Professions. The monthly
series has featured 14 speakers over the last two years.

“Participants will learn about curriculum that is competency-based
and focused on personal understanding and growth,” O’Boyle said.

The role of strategic vision will be discussed, she said, in
relation to the institute’s use of critical thinking and analysis,
political effectiveness and organizational and team development.

O’Boyle will highlight her work with the National Public Health
Education Leadership Institute. The institute seeks to strengthen the
country’s health education system by developing the leadership
capabilities of health educators.

“The lecture series highlights Health Professions research by
faculty and staff,” said Richard Parr, health science professor and
series moderator.

Parr said the lecture will be streamed live on the College of Health
Professions Web site, www.chp.cmich.edu. He said past speeches also are
available on the Web site.

The lecture will be between 20 and 30 minutes long and will be
followed by a question and answer session.

The event is free and dessert and beverages will be provided.
