Final: CMU 31, Bowling Green 14

The football team beat Bowling Green 31-14 at Kelly/Shorts Stadium tonight to improve its Mid-American Conference record to 5-0.

Central (5-3 overall) beat the Falcons (4-4 overall) for the first time in six meetings.

Junior wide receiver Justin Gardner caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Dan LeFevour to put CMU ahead 31-14 to seal the win with 3:57 remaining.

LeFevour went 15-of-25 passing for 213 yards and two touchdowns.

After giving up 14 unanswered points to watch a 17-0 deficit nearly disappear, senior wide receiver Obed Cetoute scored on a 88 yard touchdown pass from LeFevour with 14:06 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The touchdown gave CMU a 24-14 lead and the momentum it needed down the stretch.

Central jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first half, but the Falcons scored two second quarter touchdowns to cut the deficit to just three.

BGSU's Freddie Barnes scored just seconds before halftime on a 1-yard touchdown run on 4th-and-goal to cut CMU’s lead to 17-14 at halftime.

Barnes also was a part of the Falcons' first score as he caught a six-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Anthony Turner in the second quarter.

Sophomore kicker Rick Albreski gave the Chippewas their initial 17-0 lead when he connected with a 47-yard field goal.

Central's second touchdown came when cornerback Eric Fraser intercepted a Turner pass at the 47-yard line and returned it for a touchdown.

It didn't take long for CMU to put its first points on the scoreboard, as it scored on the first play from scrimmage to go up 7-0 on a 44-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Ontario Sneed.
