Open mic night to allow students to perform at RFOC
Students who think they have what it takes to perform in front of an
audience will get the opportunity Wednesday night.
On The Fly Productions will host an open mic night Wednesday at 9
p.m. in the Towers’ Real Food On Campus.
The event will feature a wide variety of acts including music,
poetry and comedy from students across campus.
OTF has put on open mics before, but over the past few years it has
sponsored a student talent showcase called “Central Star” instead of
the open events, said Jessica Belcoure, OTF president and Grosse Pointe
Park senior.
“This (Central Star) was ‘American Idol’ meets ‘Star Search,’”
Belcoure said.
“Central Star” was a judged competition that featured only singing
acts. The open mic night is a more inclusive show that provides an
opportunity for the wide-array of talented performing artists found at
CMU, she said.
“We want a big crowd,” said Heather Tobel, OTF member and Brighton
senior. “This is something we haven’t done in awhile.”
If the event is a success, Tobel said OTF hopes to host more like it
in the future.
“We are expecting it to go well,” Tobel said. “Posters are up and
people are excited about it.”
There still are openings available for any students who wish to
perform Wednesday. Contact the On The Fly Productions office for more
information at onthefly@cmich.edu or by calling 774-1189.
Participants are asked to adhere to a five-minute time limit.
Admission to the event is free.
