Rested women’s cross coutnry team ready to run

The off-week brought some much needed rest for the women’s cross
country after a draining Mid-American Championship meet on Oct. 28.

Central finished seventh at the MAC Championships, and ran through
treacherous course conditions in Buffalo.

“We needed a week off,” said coach Karen Lutzke. “That course took a
lot out of us because of the mud and water.”

The Chippewas race at Bowling Green, Ohio on Saturday for the NCAA
Great Lakes Regional Championships, their last meet of the season.

“This is it for the season,” said sophomore Jackie Rivard. “I just
have to go out there and give it my all with no regrets.”

Lutzke said the team had a good week of practice, and she has a
simple goal for Saturday.

“We have to beat as many teams as we can,” she said.

The top two teams and the top four individuals advance to the NCAA
nationals. There will be 32 teams competing Saturday at Bowling Green.

The Chippewas had five runners named to the Academic All-MAC Team,
which totaled 23 student-athletes.

“I’m really excited about it,” Lutzke said. “All student-athletes
put in a lot of time academically and physically and I’m really proud
of ours.”

Saturday’s Great Lakes Regional Championship also could be the last
race of senior Ashley Anderson’s career.

“I really want to end my career on a good note,” Anderson said. “I
know we are capable of beating the majority of teams who ended up ahead
of us at the MAC meet, and I want to prove it on Saturday.”
