Coward among us

There is a coward or group of cowards lurking on this campus.

In less than a week, two fires have been started in Wheeler Hall. Campus police and city fire officials are saying both fires were arson attempts, meaning someone or some group of people are deliberately trying to damage the building and put lives in danger.

Thankfully, no one has been hurt – yet.

But while Residence Life officials and police are looking for clues to catch the criminal(s), students and staff are living in fear, wondering when the next fire alarm will jolt them from their sleep. Meanwhile, the perpetrator(s) are sitting back, quite possibly planning another attempt.

This has got to stop.

CMU Police are doing the right thing so far. Officials are offering a hefty $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. They also are going door-to-door in Wheeler, interviewing everyone they can.
