Monday, Jan. 28, 1980

The men’s basketball team edged Kent State 73-71 on Jan. 26 in Rose Arena.

A crowd of 5,995 saw guard Melvin McLaughlin’s last-second shot to win the game for the Chippewas.

Mike Robinson scored 25 points to lead CMU.

Sophomore Cindy Tull broke two records in the swimming team’s 81-50 win Jan. 25 against Cleveland State in Rose Pool.

Tull broke the 200-yard butterfly record with a time of 2 minutes, 18.09 seconds and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:18.18.

Sophomore Ginger Warren won the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events.

Monday, Jan. 31, 1994

Nikki Thompkins’ 27 points led the women’s basketball team against Eastern Michigan 69-49 on Jan. 29 in Bowen Field House.

The win was the CMU’s first road win of the season (7-9, 4-4 Mid-American Conference).

The Chippewas went on a 16-3 run during the first half, giving them a 15 point lead.

The men’s basketball team lost to Eastern Michigan 74-60 in front of 4,552 people in Bowen Field House on Jan. 29.

CMU (3-13, 2-6 MAC) was led by Marcus Culbreth, who finished with 11 points, 16 rebounds and two blocked shot.

Forward Tyrone Hicks finished the game with 16 points and guard Torrey Mills had 12.

Monday, Jan. 27, 2003

The gymnastics team beat Ball State 193.2-192.975 to win the Cardinal Classic on Jan. 24.

Coach Jerry Reighard picked up his 100th MAC win for the Chippewas (8-0, 1-0 in MAC).

Senior Michele Orloski won the vault with a score of 9.775.

The wrestling team beat Findlay 32-8 on Jan. 25 to improve to 8-2.

Heavyweight Bill Stouffer and 157-pound wrestler David Bolyard each won by fall.

Junior Jason Mester won by major decision at 141 pounds.
