Comedian Jim Breuer said he enjoys the authentic audience response that comes with performing for college students.

“They’re raw, they’re really honest,” he said. “If I’m sucking, they let me know immediately. I love playing in front of colleges because you really have to be on your game.”

As part of his Breuniversity Tour, which includes Michigan and Tulane, Breuer will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday in Warriner Hall’s Plachta Auditorium.

Tickets are $10 for students and $20 for the general public.

Approximately 200 tickets have been sold so far.

Program Board comedian chair Christa Smalligan said the group received an application in the mail about Breuer doing this tour and filled it out immediately.

She said she picked him because she enjoyed his previous works on VH1, Comedy Central, the movie “Half Baked” and other outlets.

“He’s pretty well known and I think he’s hilarious,” she said.

Breuer is Program Board’s marquee comedian they are bringing to CMU. Last semester they brought comedian Mike Birbiglia.

Tecumseh senior Dan Waterbury, film chair for Program Board said bringing in comedians is a big part of the organization.

“It’s one of the two biggest committees in Program Board,” he said. “So it’s fairly large.”

Breuer was a Saturday Night Live cast member from 1995-98, was the host of the third season of Web Junk on VH1 and also does a Sirius satellite radio show called “Jim Breuer Unleashed.”

“Unleashed” is a show that contains no pop culture, music or news but it’s just three Breuer’s of friends hanging out and talking about life, he said.

“We’re basically the real life entourage,” he said. “You tune into hear four different worlds hang out. That’s the scary thing.”

Breuer recently did a one-hour stand up special for Comedy Central called “Jim Breuer: Hard-core.”

Breuer said he’s seen a few crazy things happen throughout the years while performing, including when people went on stage and did the entire Brian from “Half Baked” ordering food routine.

Breuer’s tour will take him throughout the Midwest and East Coast. A few comedy club shows also will be included. He said every place is different so he has to change his routine often to suit the location.

“They change pretty much every night, every area,” he said.

Students interested in meeting Breuer can buy raffle tickets before the show and 25 winners, along with a friend, can meet him after the show.
