Senior outfielder Tyler Stovall and 197-pound wrestler Wynn Michalak have each received ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic honors.
Stovall has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team for the second consecutive year and Michalak was selected to the all-district first team. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Stovall is a personal financial planning major and boasts a 3.81 grade-point average. Stovall, a third team selection, was a second team selection last season and is the first Chippewa to ever be selected to the Academic All-America team twice.
Stovall lead Central Michigan in batting average (.332) and stolen bases (26) in 2008 on his way to earning second team All-Mid-American Conference a year removed from being named MAC Player of the Year.
Michalak is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a double major in mathematics and physical education and also maintains a 3.81 grade-point average.
The three time All-American was the national runner-up at 197-pounds as a senior in 2008.
Michalak won at least 30 matches in each of his four seasons and holds a career record of 128-24 with 50 pins.
Michalak was a four-time Academic All-MAC and National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic team selection and was the first recipient of CMU’s Dick Enberg Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.
