Mount Pleasant man killed in car accident

A 58-year-old Mount Pleasant male was killed in a car accident early Thursday morning.

At 12:39 a.m., Gary Edwin Moe drove off the side of Hiawatha Drive near Oak Court, went through a ditch and struck a tree.

Moe was traveling eastbound in his 2002 Dodge Intrepid. He was the only individual in the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt, according to a press release from the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department.

Following the accident, Moe was flown by helicopter to Covenant Health Care in Saginaw where he was pronounced dead, according to the press release.

Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident. The incident remains under investigation.

“We have to wait for the autopsy and to see how much alcohol was in his blood, so it won’t be closed until we get that information,” Mioduszewski said.

Moe was the director of human resources and training at the Michigan Department of Community Health-Mount Pleasant Center, a facility that serves and supports individuals with developmental disabilities. Moe had worked there for 35 years.

He lived by himself in Mount Pleasant. He was divorced from Cheryl Moe and had one child and grandson who currently reside in Virginia. Moe is survived by two sisters, Kathy Hopkins and Karen Lewis, and his father Ed Moe.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Clark Family Funeral Chapel, 114 S. Bradley St., Ed Moe said.
