Senior fills days with OTF work

Some people simply go to college.

Then there are those who become part of the college.

“The more I do, the more well-rounded I am,” said Miranda Crawford, president of On the Fly Productions. “I want to bring that experience to other students.”

The Indian River senior got involved with OTF her freshman year.

“I wanted to get to know more people,” Crawford said. “It’s grown from a social activity to a career.”

Graduating this spring, Crawford will receive a degree in cinematic arts with a minor in political science. Beyond graduation, Crawford plans on working with student life and affairs at a college.

OTF member Michael Willer admires Crawford’s dedication to CMU.

“Miranda is a shinning example of how to be involved on campus” the Maybee freshman said. “As the president of On the Fly, she puts her heart and soul into everything she does.”

As OTF president, Crawford is responsible for overseeing meetings and working with a university adviser to bring entertainment to campus.

“Everything we do, we do for the students,” Crawford said. “We’re students ourselves and we take all aspects of diversity into account.”

Being a full-time student and president of an RSO keeps Crawford busy.

“I like to be busy so it doesn’t bother me that much,” she said.

Crawford said she has learned a lot as president, joking that she’s a bit of a control freak.

“It’s hard for me to delegate. I had to learn to step back and trust other people to get the job done,” she said.

Although it can be stressful at times, Crawford recognizes why she is involved with OTF.

“Around this time of year is the best,” Crawford said. “New members are confused and excited. But you see them with older members and you see a spark, moments when they truly click. That’s my favorite experience.”

As she approaches graduation, Crawford has plenty of advice for new students.

“Get involved. Put yourself out there. It can be overwhelming at first, but you connect with people and make friends. You stick it out with the people you do stuff with outside of class,” she said.

As for her experience at CMU, Crawford has nothing but good things to say.

“I never thought all of this could happen at college,” she said.
