Real-life ‘Hitch’ shares advice with students

Remember that special someone you see every day in class, but never talk to? Or that girl you see at the bar whom you don’t have the courage to talk to?

That could be the reason On the Fly brought David Coleman, the dating doctor, on Thursday in the Real Food on Campus – he knows exactly what those having dating issues need to hear.

Jenny Zuzeleski, the On the Fly Public Relations chairwoman and Muskegon junior, said there were several reason OTF decided to bring him back.

“He can reach a lot of students on campus,” she said. “Students enjoy him talking and all his inputs on dating.”

Coleman discussed his views on dating and why so many people often have trouble dating or even just conversing with new people. He explored the minds of dating individuals and explained exactly what they were thinking.

Coleman repeated multiple times throughout the show that the biggest problem is that often they feel unconfident in themselves.

“His show is about making yourself more comfortable and self-confident,” Zuzeleski said.

After giving his dating and self-encouragement advice, Coleman gave students a chance to test his methods of dating by offering them a chance to speed date.

After the show, female students went to individual tables where they waited for male students to come sit at their table and begin the dating.

Male students wandered from table to table, hoping the lines and advice given by Coleman would really help.

Coleman’s largest lesson of the night was “know yourself and believe in yourself.” Coleman explains that if people do those two things, everything else in their life will be much easier.

Around 100 students attended.

“I’m overwhelmed by the attendance,” Zuzeleski said. “It’s a great turn out and it’s nice to see that students are taking advantage of the event.”
