Greek events work with MLK festivities

Members of Central Michigan University’s Greek community are planning Martin Luther King Jr. Week events as diverse as the dreams of the doctor himself.

“During one day at our recruitment, we are making up little cards with facts and information about Martin Luther King to pass out to inform the girls going through about him and his life,” said Natalie DeSantis, a Phi Sigma Sigma sorority member and Livonia sophomore.

The Alpha Chi Omega sorority is hosting a semester spaghetti dinner in benefit of women and children suffering from domestic violence in Isabella County during the week.

Several groups with no planned events of their own will help fellow Greeks in their efforts around campus.

Many greek organizations are focusing their “pledges” on joining in with the events already planned by Minority Student Services.

“We and (Delta Phi Epsilon) are going to the peace march on Monday,” said Christopher Dutot, a Phi Kappa Tau fraternity member and Midland senior.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. CommUNITY March, starting at the Bovee University Center at 11:30 on Monday, will provide an opportunity for the general public to join with several speakers on their march to downtown Mount Pleasant.
