Rep. Caul to speak at peace breakfast

Students and community members looking for a way to start Martin Luther King Jr. Week with a full plate and an open mind will find it Monday morning.

Minority Student Services is hosting the annual Peace Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Monday in the Bovee University Center’s Rotunda Room. The event is open to the public and will feature a number of speakers and entertainers.

“We hope people will learn about the difference Dr. King has made in our lives,” said Lester Booker, a Canton graduate student and one of the organizers of the event. “I’m sure the speakers will speak from their hearts.”

State Representative Bill Caul, R-Mount Pleasant, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker for the breakfast.

“I was honored and surprised when I was asked,” Caul said.

Booker estimates approximately 200 people will attend the breakfast.

Attendees can expect great food and quality entertainment, Booker said.

“We have a number of on-campus groups who will be performing. There will be some dance, some visual art and a mime.”

Caul said his speech on Monday should be one that everyone can relate to.

“I plan for the overall theme of my talk to be that everyone has an opportunity to make a difference,” Caul said. “Dr. King is notable in that regard. And after all the work Dr. King did over his lifetime, if what I have to say touches even one person, I’ll feel as if I’ve done some good.”
