First Family frenzy

The White House always has been a hallowed and respected place for any First Family to live, and we have appreciated what it represents for the sake of our nation.

However, the Obamas will enjoy little comfort when it comes to stemming the news media tide that is all-probing and incessant.

No First Family in the history of the United States has ever been talked about more in the first 48 hours of its existence.

The Kennedy family was considered awe-inspiring for its time, but it gained its fame over the tragically short years of JFK’s term of office. Attention was not voracious before the Oath of Office was even taken – as was the case for Obama.

The recent craze for the Obama First Family is endearing to a certain extent, but it gets obsessive and ridiculous when every media outlet wants to rifle through every single detail about each member of the First Family.

For example, it is troubling to hear about the lunch menu, item for item, of what Sasha and Malia Obama will have later that day, courtesy of multiple network and cable news morning shows.

What’s next? A running commentary on the Obama daughters losing their wisdom teeth?

Yes, Michelle Obama is graciously compared to Jackie Kennedy. Her fashion sense, interior design schemes and household rules are favorite conversation pieces for the media realm.

But let us not forget that Mrs. Obama is also an important individual for advice on matters of state, since she is the one who’s the ‘better half’ of the head of state to whom we look for authority and direction.

The First Family is clearly the closest thing Americans have to a royal family. All the members of that family are intriguing characters to follow, and we all feel akin to the confidence they exude for us to cherish.

However, we cannot forget they are truly an American family like all the other families that call the U.S. home.

In fact, the First Family is the embodiment of the American family we all share. Sure, we may be disgruntled, we may not talk as much, we may not play nice, and we’re reluctant to share our belongings amongst ourselves like we should.

But we are still a family, and we have to learn to get along better. We have to clean up after each other and comfort one another.

Besides, we have a model to work off of at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington, D.C., right?

So how about we stop being silly and just do our daily chores?
