Songs and brew
Brian ManzulloSmells of coffee brewing and sounds of music filled the air Wednesday night in the Real Food on Campus residential restaurant.
Kulhavi Residence Hall’s Coffeehouse Benefit Concert hosted five local performers and raised $100 for the United Way of Isabella County.
West Bloomfield sophomore Sarah Dodson coordinated the event and said she was impressed with the crowd and the performers.
“This is what they do in their free time,” Dodson said. “This is their passion.
The performers were Troy sophomore Joseph Hertler Mount Pleasant senior Brodie Seyferth, White Lake Junior Kevin Thibodeau, Jeff Pianki and James North.
Rochester Hills freshman Elizabeth Gafford said the groups performing should be signed to a recording label.
“They should all have record deals,” she said.
Organizers of the event said everything went smoothly.
“I was really happy with the amount of people that showed up and the talent of the performers,” said Grand Blanc sophomore Elizabeth Bennett.
Each performer had a 30-minute time slot to play their music.
Seyferth was approached to join the show by Thibodeau while at Kaya Coffee & Tea Co., 1029 S. University Ave.
“I wanted to have fun and play music,” Seyferth said. Among his song picks to play he chose a song entitled “Late Night,” one of his own compositions.
Hertler mixed it up a bit with songs on the banjo, playing both some of his older and new material. He also played.
Pianki, a man of many instruments, said the atmosphere made it easier for him to play in.
“I’m used to the coffee shop (atmosphere),” he said.
Both Hertler and Pianki joked about loving the others music so much, they had become each others MySpace.com stalkers.
North, the fourth performer sang a remix of “Shoulder Lean” and provided an interesting rendition of rap artist, Lil Wayne.
North also did something a little different by opening a fortune cookie and reading it aloud. It read “your resolved to find something new each day,” something he says he believes he can do.
