So, you slept through class.

No worries, not with a new Web site craze. It turns out that the Internet just might actually have a social networking Web site for everything, including one that may save your grade when you just don’t make it to that important lecture.

The Web site, isleptthroughclass.com allows users to upload and share their notes with classmates.

While it has become a big hit with schools like Purdue University and Ball State, it has had little traffic from Central Michigan University students.

“It sounds like a good idea. I like comparing my notes to other people’s,” said Crystal Schmidt, a Harrison Freshman.

Anthony Voisin, assistant dean and director of student life, said the site can be a valuable resource for students, but it should not be used to replace class attendance.

“I don’t know that I’m supportive of students using this on a regular basis,” he said. “I think we have great faculty who are more than willing to make arrangements with students, (and are) available during office hours.”

“From an ethical standpoint, there are some legit times to miss classes, and under those circumstances, obviously you want to get the notes,” he said. “I think students can usually get it from somebody else in class or talk to the instructor.”

Voisin also said students wouldn’t be breaking university policy by using the site, but if students begin to use the site as a means to share answers for class assignments, disciplinary action will be taken.

Points are awarded to users based on the quantity of notes that a person uploads. Large numbers of points can be redeemed for gift cards.

Mark Jones, a Caro sophomore, said he’s interested in using the web site.

“If you are missing class, it’s a good way to catch up on the notes and to meet classmates,” he said.
