Fatal Broomfield crash claims 18-year-old
An 18-year-old man from Riverdale was killed Monday morning after crashing his car into a tree near the intersection of S. Whiteville and E. Broomfield Roads in Union Township.
Nathan Michael Troupe, of Riverdale in Gratiot County, was driving a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire northbound on Whiteville Road at high speed and was unable to make the turn at Broomfield, according to the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department.
At approximately 11:20 a.m., Troupe’s car ran off the road, over an island of grass and was catapulted into the air across Broomfield Road, hitting a tree approximately 30 feet across the ground. He was pronounced dead on the scene. There were no passengers in the car.
The sheriff’s department said Troupe was wearing a seat belt and the vehicle’s air bag was deployed. The accident remains under investigation.
