On Monday, the Delta Omega Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity raised more than $1,390 for the Children’s Miracle Network with a date auction.
The auction was the first installment in a week packed with philanthropy events.
This week is the fraternity’s Snowfest, a competition between social sororities on campus, said Coopersville junior Doug Booth. For every dollar spent, the group receives two points.
“We are hoping to raise a couple thousand,” said Booth, the fraternity’s philanthropy chair.
More than 100 Central Michigan University women came out to bid on the brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. The highest bid of the night was for Troy senior Matt Campbell, who was auctioned off at $200.
The dates will be left up to the brothers and the ladies who purchased them, Booth said.
Sterling Heights sophomore Cody Nihem was inducted into the fraternity last Sunday and this was his first fraternity event.
“I liked it, they played off of what we wrote,” said Nihem, referring to the auction’s announced selling points.
“The winner at the end of the week gets our ‘True Gentlemen Dinner,’ which is where we go to their house, make them dinner, clean up – all the works,” Booth said.
Mount Pleasant sophomore Stephanie Harless said it was great that one of the brothers used his own money to double the bid.
“Its cool that one of the brothers actually matched his bid, so our whole sorority pooled in to buy him,” said the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority member.
Throughout the week, the brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon will have a table in the Bovee University Center Down Under Food Court. They will be selling Children’s Miracle Network balloons, bracelets and teddy bears that they will deliver to children in the hospital.
