Two men were arrested this week and charged for multiple larcenies from vehicles in four Central Michigan University parking lots.
According to a press release, an 18-year-old Alma man and a 19-year-old Vestaburg man were arrested by CMU Police with assistance from the Alma Police Department.
The suspects allegedly entered several locked and unlocked vehicles from January to late February in lots 52, 63, 64 and 70; and stole items from the vehicles.
According to police, the suspects stole several thousands of dollars of personal items and electronic equipment, but later a significant portion of the items were recovered in locations in Alma and Flint.
CMU Police Chief Stan Dinius said the stolen items included iPods, radar detectors and snowboards.
Aside from locking car doors, Dinius said there are things people can do to keep their belongings safe.
“A lot of times thieves will look in and see iPods and radar detectors, so put things out of sight or in the trunk,” he said.
Removing valuable items from the vehicle completely is another measure people can take to protect their items, he said.
