Athletes will sing and dance to benefit charity

Pep up the end of your weekend by watching Central Michigan University athletes get ‘jiggy’ on the court.

At 6 p.m. on Sunday, Rose Arena will be filled with student athletes who will be signing autographs and mingling with fans until the “Jock Rock” event begins at 7 p.m., when the athletes will dance, lip-sync and perform skits.

“It sounds entertaining and exciting,” said Jerome graduate student Jamie Cook.

Admission for the event will be $4 at the door or $3 with a food donation.

“It would be fun to meet the people you read about in the paper,” Cook said.

Attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods and other nonperishable foods to assist the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen and the American Red Cross.

“The only thing that keeps the soup kitchen going is the Isabella community,” said soup kitchen director Genny Sobaski.

It is necessary that the community provide for the soup kitchen on a continuous basis, she said.

The Isabella Community Soup Kitchen needs everything from paper products and serving gloves to corn, ketchup and fruit cocktail, Sobaski said.

“We go through tons of salad dressing,” Sobaski said. “We are really low on fruit.”

Bad Axe senior and event correspondent, Jaclyn Rivard, said this will be not only fun for students but a “family event” as well. She hopes to see a large turnout of at least 700 athletes, faculty, students and community members.

Come out and participate in cheering, laughing, and philanthropy, Rivard said.

The event is being put on by The Chippewa Athletic Club, CFX, Student-Athletic Advisory Committee and students in the JRN 556: Public Relations class.
