Financial crisis presentation Monday in Park Library
When it comes to financial situations and managing money, there is never too much a person can know.
On Monday, Golden Key International Honour Society and Isabella Bank will host the event “Financial Literacy 101.” The seminar will cover a number of issues including money management, credit, lending, investments and financial scams. It will be held from 5-7 p.m. in the Charles V. Park Library Auditorium.
“A person can always learn more about money management,” said Mary Olivieri, director of community relations at Isabella Bank.
The presentation will be geared toward college students, said Lily Skinner, a Midland senior and president of the Golden Key International Honour Society.
“Following the presentation, there will be experts from Isabella Bank that will answer any questions a person may have,” Skinner said.
Olivieri said there are many people who not properly educated about the different aspects of financial situations and says that this event will be very helpful not only to college students, but also to anyone who is unsure about the different financial situations in the world.
Coordinators of this event hope that anyone in attendance will have something they can take from it.
“There is never too much information that a person can have,” Olivieri said. “The purpose of this is to share our knowledge of financial information with people that may not have as much knowledge about it.”
Skinner said the event is important because it will address some issues that people may not be too savvy about.
Along with loan issues and money management, the presenters will attempt to make people aware of the different scams that occur when it comes to money.
“With the economy the way it is, we have to watch every dollar that is being spent,” Skinner said.
Olivieri said credit is another major issue for everyone and people need to know what can really happen if their finances are not taken care of properly.
“Anyone who is unsure about financial things should attend this event,” Skinner said. “It will be very helpful because important information that is useful in the world after graduation and even before a person graduates will be presented.”
If all goes well, they hope to have another presentation like this in the future, Olivieri said.
